Father Romano Filippi, a missionary of the diocese of Concordia-Pordenone, came to Kenya in 1971 from Italy and settled in Naromoru. He was then transferred to Gatarakwa, then in 1999 to Mugunda, where he has dedicated his life to improving the quality of life in the community, including activating a pediatric hospital, a dispensary for medical treatments, primary and secondary schools, and a water supply system. He communicates fluently in Kikuyu.
